The Meaning of Life: Cat Videos

What started as a cheeky comment in a conversation with a friend quickly turned into something much more meaningful. I don’t even remember what we were discussing on a lazy afternoon when I made the comment that we were probably far overthinking whatever it was.

Wryly, I told him that the answers to seemingly complicated questions are probably deceptively simple. So simple that we dismiss the answers out of hand as nonsense, pointless drivel. To illustrate, I threw out that the meaning of life is something idiotic like cat videos.

Seems ridiculous - that was the intent - but think about it. What is a cat (or puppy, bunny, bird…) video? One moment of pure joy and happiness - preserved forever - and shared with the world to create smiles.

Seeking out, recognizing, and living in those moments seems about as good an answer to the “meaning of life” question as I’ve ever heard.
