Who to contact in an emergency

  • Physical or Medical Danger

Immediately dial 9-1-1 from any telephone if there is a clear and present danger - fire, drug overdose, attacker, car accident, or the like. This will connect you with emergency service personnel who can aid you immediately.

  • Mental Health Crisis

Call or text 9-8-8 from any phone in the United States if you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health crisis - suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, active psychotic episode, and the like. This will connect you with operators who can direct you to proper resources or dispatch specialized mental health responders.

  • Go To Nearest Emergency Room

If it is safe to do so, transporting yourself and/or your loved one to the nearest hospital or emergency room can get you into a safe place with trained professionals who can help.

  • Community Services Board

Most counties within the state of Virginia have a Community Services Board (CSB) with emergency contact phone numbers. To find your local CSB, type “[your county name] community services board” into the internet search engine of your choice.

  • Individuals with Special Needs

REACH provides both short-term crisis stabilization and long-term services for both children and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
